Dog Collared (1950) Review: Porky's Unexpected Adventure

Video version available on YouTube. Please note that certain sections may not translate well to the audio only format.

In this episode, I review the Looney Tunes short 'Dog Collared', originally released on December 2, 1950. With my co-host, Fox, we dive into interesting trivia about the short, including its original title 'Man's Pest Friend' and its blue ribbon reissue in 1959. The plot centers on Porky Pig during Be Kind To Animals Week, which leads to a series of comedic events when a large dog starts following him. We also discuss the animation, problematic stereotypes, and twists in the story, as well as the significant role of animator Robert McKimson in shaping Porky's character. Finally, my friend S. C. MacPeter adds his insights on this unique but middle-of-the-road cartoon.
